A Lovely Minneapolis Fall Wedding

by Papertini 11 January 2009 22:36

I am very blessed to have been given the opportunity to do Melissa and Dan's wedding flowers. I know both of them from my sister-in-law, Colleen, who is married to Dan's twin brother, Peder. And may I add: they are identical twins. ^_^ The only thing that separates Peder from Dan is Peder's goatee. Hehehe... ^_^ Both Melissa and Dan were so gracious and such a pleasure to work with! After flying out to Arizona a month prior, I know that this Minneapolis wedding would be a little bit more challenging because it's a bigger scale. I definitely needed a bigger workspace and refrigeration. So after asking Jessica Leopold of Koehler and Dramms (the floral distributor I went to for the flowers), she suggested contacting Fairie Flowers Weddings & Events. Boy, did I hit a jackpot! Not only I got to rent the space and refrigeration for a reasonable price, the most important thing was...I found myself a mentor! Susan Rowell, owner and principal designer of Fairie Flowers Weddings & Events, is the kindest soul I have ever met in this industry! She gave me so many valuable advises and introduced me to a few fellow independent floral designers! Thank you so much, Susan! Your mentorship and friendship truly means a lot to me! I am definitely looking forward to our long lasting relationship! ^_^

Okay, back to talking about the wedding! ^_^ Melissa absolutely adores flowers! She was not picky about the flowers, in fact, she wanted each of the bridesmaids to have their own, unique bouquets with different flowers! What a fun project this was! ^_^

For the reception, they wanted full, short arrangements. For place card table, guest book table and bathrooms, they pretty much let me do whatever I want (YIPPEE!! ^_^). We kept the cake table simple, just petal spread. Color scheme for the reception is Ivory, White and Peach. We used very minimal greeneries in general (only Hypericum Berries here and there).

So you were probably wondering how in the heck did I manage to do all of these work outside of my comfort zone? Well, I got a lot of help from Dan and Melissa's families! They came in "shifts" to help me clean up the flower stems and some helped me arrange. Totally loving this family affair! ^_^ I had a lot of fun and I think they did, too! ^_^ Everything went smoothly and on schedule!

In a nutshell: It was amazing! I will never forget this experience! Words really cannot describe all the good things that I've received throughout this event - it's simply a great blessing. I had so much fun and as I've said earlier, the big bonus from this experience is the new friends I've made along the way.
